Kelvin OkaforBorn in Tottenham 1985, multi-award winning artist Kelvin Okafor’s meteoric rise to acclaim has been well noted in the UK’s media. His stunningly executed portraits are sought after by collectors and celebrities worldwide. This debut solo exhibition of 28 portraits will be on show throughout May at Albemarle Gallery.
The pursuit of perfection is the main driving force behind Kelvin Okafor’s works, not only in the sheer quality of draftsmanship but the ability to evoke an immediate emotional connection between subject and viewer.
Okafor is preoccupied in painstakingly capturing and conveying the expressions and gestures of his subjects and is therefore not surprisingly a strong believer in patience being a virtue. The length of time required to create the finished drawing is of far less concern than Okafor’s need to take the work to the highest possible level of execution.
