“My work is of a predominantly figurative nature and for the past few years I have used the human figure as my main subject. My interest in the human condition has led me to produce images of people in domestic settings, using the people and environments which surround my everyday life to comment on their characteristics. At the same time I tend to convey situations which occur in the lives of all of us such as isolation, loneliness, connection and conflict. I use a life-size scale enabling the viewer to relate to the image on a more realistic level. The relationship between figures and objects creates a heightened sense of ambiguity but also illustrates underlying emotional content. Strong colour and light creates, at first glance, a superficially vibrant image, masking the protagonist in the painting – the intent is to reveal the difference between the order we try to portray on the outside and the concealment of underlying feelings. I want my images to comment on the way we live and relate to one another as individuals
