David Reimondo was born in Genoa. His artistic experience has been developed in Italy and abroad. He lives and works in Milan.
The most prominent feature of Reimondo’s work is his choice not to use traditional techniques. It cannot be considered painting, sculpture or photography, yet the work contains elements of each of these processes. It is trace, it is image, it has weight and is three-dimensional. Reimondo uses this combination to great effect to underline the suggestion of the human condition: polyvalent, complex, multiple.
The images shown in the works by David Reimondo are the result of a composite technique applied on a surface of sliced bread, where the black is attained by toasting the bread and the white by covering it with an appropriate aluminium mask.
It is similar to a serigraphic technique, where heat is used instead of colour. The slices are then encapsulated in a transparent resin block, which both preserves them from deterioration and accentuates the aesthetic. This process also gives the work a sense of lightness and floatation, creating shadows on the background board, which in turn enhances the physicality of the work.
The resin becomes an integral part of the body of the artwork, creating a play between its two and three-dimensional aspects.
The symbolization Reimondo infers with his use of materials is a key element of his work. His use of bread combined with contemporary imagery explores the relationship between humanity and technology, body and space, and language and identity.
