‘The Portrait Sessions’ is a series of contemporary portraits of unusual and peculiar individuals. It explores the confusion between a real and illusory world where its characters are caught in an intrusive, and often confrontational moment.
Full of narrative enticing expressions and awkward postures, the images leave the stories of these unknown individuals open to the viewer’s imagination.
Heavily influenced by human psychology, classical renaissance paintings and contemporary films, ‘The Portrait Sessions’ is a voyage of human emotion. It explores how a single expression can convey a whole narrative and how even fictitious sentiment can still entail true emotion.
These curious characters often stand-alone in dark, atmospheric spaces that resemble a stranger version of our own world. Exuding emotion even at direction, the characters were chosen for their pragmatic look and sincerity. Ranging from family members to strangers found in chance encounters, the series is consistently searching for those that can tell a narrative with a single look.
