My paintings are based on snapshots of domestic phenomena. Through subjectively cropping and translating my subject matter, the banal and fleeting moments that I depict become slowed down and acquire an intensity and permanence that only the laborious process of realist painting can yield. Through this traditional process the subject is translated into the historical context of painting, creating a dialogue with and drawing on the traditions of genre painting and modes and mythologies from art history.
