Hiromi Watanabe was born in Japan, and moved to England 1995. She studied at Chelsea College of Art, graduating with a BA in Fine Art, and followed with an MA in Fine Art from The City and Guilds London art school. Hiromi is fascinated by perception, of looking at and feeling space in nature. In particular, what inspires her work is the momentum of physical objects, of witnessing the phenomenon of nature.
Her technique employs the application of natural materials such as marble dust and oil paint onto canvas. She uses a limited palette and simple compositions creating a harmonious sense of beauty. It is this simplicity and sense of beauty that visually provides evidence of the artist's cultural influences. The artist draws from Japanese Art, from images of Zen Gardens and Japanese printmaking.
